Engagement Photography | Michael + Kaia | Part II

Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself – and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That’s what real love amounts to – letting a person be what he really is.
-Jim Morrison

A great love begins with great friendship…I truly believe happy couples are friends as well as lovers. This amazing couple has an incredible love, one of the great loves, one for the memory books! What an honor to walk alongside them and capture their journey, and hear all about their engagement in Tulum, Mexico (read more about that in this post). Rather than three of us exploring, it felt like I got to just witness the two of them as they always are; kind, funny, and adventurous. Through the cool mountain lake and rocky shores we traipsed, feeling fresh breezes through the tall grass. Laughter swept through those hills, and those smiles you see? Those are genuine.

Kaia is so encouraging of my passion for film & patiently stood by as I loaded roll upon roll into my Contax for this breathtaking engagement session. Film captures the moment in such an amazing, dreamy way; you get just ONE shot, so that moment is not a result of shooting hundreds of rapid fire shots, but rather one carefully constructed, truthful moment. I love that. And just wait until you see the mountain-top, Native American, nuptial ceremony we just finished with them too…it will truly take your breath away!

Because really… RayBans.
